Walters UK engineer Lewis Curtis named in CECA 30 Under 30 campaign
The Civil Engineering Contractors Association has profiled Walters UK engineer Lewis Curtis, a 2025 Bristol graduate, as the latest entry in the series marking its 30th anniversary.
The Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) has profiled Walters UK engineer Lewis Curtis as the latest young professional in its 30 Under 30 campaign, which the trade body is running as part of its 30th anniversary.
CECA said Curtis studied civil engineering at the University of Bristol after being inspired by his grandad's interest in construction. He graduated in July 2025 with an upper second-class honours master's degree and joined Walters the following month.
According to the profile, Curtis has since been applying his academic knowledge on site while building up his practical skills.
The role
CECA said Curtis supports the running of site activities by preparing risk assessments and method statements, completing and processing surveys, managing equipment and materials, and issuing permits when required.
An early highlight of his career, according to the association, was independently completing a full as-built survey from start to finish.
CECA said working with specialist subcontractors is one of the parts of the job Curtis enjoys most, as it gives him the chance to learn from their expertise and widen his understanding of construction techniques.
Looking ahead, the profile said, he aims to become a highly experienced engineer, leading teams and overseeing major projects at Walters.
The campaign
CECA has described the 30 Under 30 series as a showcase for young professionals who will help shape the next three decades of UK infrastructure. Earlier entries have included Chloe Gooding of Seymour Civil Engineering.
The association is also running a companion series, 30 Projects for 30 Years, highlighting schemes built since its foundation. CECA dated its anniversary in May 2026, when it marked 30 years of working for infrastructure at a reception in Westminster.
CECA said it has more than 300 members based across six English regions and the devolved nations of Scotland and Wales, and that those members carry out an estimated 70 to 80 per cent of all civil engineering activity in the UK.
The employer
Walters U.K. Limited's registered office, according to Companies House, is at Hirwaun House, Hirwaun Industrial Estate, Aberdare.
Walters said its civil engineering expertise focuses on major earthworks, civil infrastructure, demolition and remediation, and that it has formed part of design and delivery teams on some of the largest national infrastructure projects in the UK. The company said it operates workshops and maintenance facilities at Hirwaun and Avonmouth.
CECA said readers can find out more about Curtis's route into civil engineering and his ambitions in the full profile published on its website.
