Persimmon Homes South East has raised £9,500 for the Lighthouse Charity at its annual charity golf day, held at Tudor Park Golf Club in Maidstone with teams drawn from its staff and supply chain.

The Lighthouse Charity, which announced the total on 6 October, said contractors, suppliers and business partners from across the region took part in a day of competition, networking and fundraising. Timber Erections Ltd finished top of the leaderboard.

Gav Nicholson, Contracts Manager at Persimmon Homes South East, said: "We are absolutely delighted to have raised £9,500 for Lighthouse. The support we received from our contractors was fantastic and really demonstrated the generosity that exists across our industry."

He added that organising the event was a team effort and thanked those who attended, sponsored activities and donated prizes.

Awareness as well as funds

According to the charity, the day was also intended to draw attention to the support on offer to construction workers and to encourage conversations about wellbeing and looking after colleagues across the industry.

The Lighthouse Charity has supported the construction community since 1956 and provides round-the-clock help on emotional, physical and financial wellbeing to workers in the UK and Ireland, according to its own description of its work. Its Wellbeing Academy offers free soft skills and leadership training.

Demand on the charity

The donation comes against rising demand. In its 2025 Impact Report, published in July 2026, the charity said it increased the charitable and leveraged support it delivered to £6.3m.

Over the year it supported 6,712 families with needs including emergency food shops and housing support, funded 8,714 counselling sessions, 51% more than the previous year, and responded to 94 critical incidents, a 42% rise on 2024. The charity said this had been delivered against a backdrop of increased material costs and labour shortages across the sector.

Sarah Bolton, CEO of the Lighthouse Charity, said of its strategy of raising awareness and building communities: "This has been incredibly successful, and we have been able to connect with more people than ever before."

An existing relationship

The golf day is not the first support Persimmon has given the charity. In February 2024, the Lighthouse Charity said it had received a £50,000 donation from the Persimmon Charitable Foundation for its Make It Visible on-site initiative, under which Lighthouse teams visit building sites across the UK to promote the charity's services.

The charity said that in 2023 the Make It Visible team visited 390 sites, engaged more than 25,000 site workers and supported 147 workers who were experiencing suicidal thoughts. Anthony Vigor, Chair of the Trustees for the Persimmon Charitable Foundation, said at the time he was delighted the foundation could support the charity.

Persimmon says it operates from 29 offices across the country and three off-site manufacturing facilities.

The Lighthouse Charity did not give the date of the golf day or the number of teams that took part.
