The Lighthouse Charity's Western Region golf day at Oake Manor Golf Club in Taunton has raised £2,300 for construction workers and their families, the charity announced on 16 October.

The day, sponsored by construction recruitment agency Sphere Solutions, brought together colleagues, clients and industry partners from across the sector for a round of golf and fundraising, Lighthouse said.

The charity said the total came from everyone who played, sponsored, donated or volunteered on the day. It thanked Oake Manor Golf Club for hosting and the businesses and individuals who backed the event through sponsorship, prizes and donations.

Planning for next year's event has already been approved, according to Lighthouse, and the Western Branch committee intends to welcome more teams back to the course in 2027.

The event

The charity's own listing scheduled the Western Region Golf Day 2026 for Thursday 27 August at Oake Manor Golf Club, Oake, Taunton, Somerset, TA4 1BA.

Players were offered a bacon roll with tea or coffee on arrival before heading out for 18 holes. The day finished with a two-course lunch in the clubhouse, where the winners of a charity raffle and a putting competition were announced.

Tickets were handled directly by Sphere Solutions rather than by the charity, according to the listing.

A long-standing supporter

Sphere Solutions Ltd describes itself as a construction recruitment agency providing staffing to the sector. Its support for Lighthouse goes back some years.

In December 2022, Lighthouse reported that the firm had run a band and quiz night with an auction, jointly with Classic Builders, attended by 200 people. That event raised £4,000 for each of the two charities supported.

In the same post, Sphere Solutions said the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity had been its chosen charity for many years, and that its representative had been an active member of the Lighthouse committee for more than 15 years.

Where the money goes

Lighthouse says it provides free, 24/7 holistic support to the construction community in the UK and Ireland, covering emotional, physical and financial wellbeing for workers and their families. The charity says it has been delivering charitable support to the industry since 1956.

The golf day proceeds arrive as the charity runs a seasonal fundraising push. According to its website, Lighthouse needs to raise £200,000 (€233,000) by Christmas to keep supporting the construction community.

Lighthouse said planning for the 2027 golf day has been approved.
