Hiatt Hardware has become an official sponsor of Band of Builders, the charity that supports members of the UK construction industry and their families, Band of Builders has announced.

The charity said the Birmingham-based hardware supplier would support it as an Industry Partner, providing hardware products and equipment for its projects. That support could cover everything from small site items such as hi-vis and tea mugs up to funding projects, it said.

Hiatt Hardware will also be a proactive supporter of the charity's annual Big Brew campaign, in which firms across the trade host a builders' tea break to get construction workers talking about mental health.

Nipun Agrawal, CEO at Hiatt Hardware Group, said: "Tradespeople have been our customers for over 40 years, so supporting a charity that looks after them is the right thing to do."

He added that the company was looking forward to its first Big Brew, which he said was coming up, and to getting involved in the charity's next project.

The Big Brew

Gavin Crane, CEO of Band of Builders, said Hiatt's commitment to the Big Brew "demonstrates a genuine understanding of the importance of mental health and wellbeing across the construction industry."

Anyone can host a Big Brew, according to the charity.

Its Big Brew page records 3,085 construction workers reached. Through its partnership with Hays, Band of Builders said it had visited over 1,000 sites across the UK.

The charity

Band of Builders gained charity status in England and Wales in 2019, according to its own account of its history. It describes its mission as supporting members of the UK construction industry and their families in their hour of need.

The charity runs a tiered partnership structure. It describes Strategic partners as its highest level of partnership. Its Industry partners tier is described as strengthening support across the construction sector, and its Company supporters tier as backing its work through grassroots and industry support.

Band of Builders' announcement describes Hiatt Hardware as an Industry Partner. The Big Brew is timed to coincide with World Mental Health Day each October, according to the charity.
