Devon and London tilers certified as Master Tile Fixers by The Tile Association

Martyn Moore of Moore Ceramics and Samuel Paul of PL Tilers have passed The Tile Association's certification for experienced independent fixers, which requires an online test and two customer references.

The Tile Association (TTA) has certified two more tradespeople as Master Tile Fixers, naming Martyn Moore of Devon-based Moore Ceramics Ltd and Samuel Paul of London-based PL Tilers Ltd as the latest additions to the scheme.

The trade body said the certification scheme was set up to support its vision to raise tile and tiling standards and to improve installation expertise and craftsmanship. It certifies highly experienced and skilled independent tile fixers to promote best practice and to encourage tiling professionals to strive for excellence, TTA said.

The two tilers

TTA described Martyn Moore as a highly skilled tiling contractor with a reputation for completing quality work. Moore Ceramics operates in the South West and beyond and, according to the association, has built up a portfolio across 15 years of experience that takes in McDonald's restaurants, pubs and shops, the Grade I-listed country house Bishop's Court in Devon and Princess Gardens on the seafront at Torquay.

Companies House lists Moore Ceramics Limited, company number 13610435, as incorporated on 8 September 2021 with an address in Plymouth, Devon.

Samuel Paul, TTA said, combines performance requirements with creative design and is known in particular for mosaic installations, drawing on a previous background in art and graphic design.

PL Tilers is a family tiling company that has completed more than 2,000 installations in and around London, according to the association. It was a finalist for Best Domestic Project at the 2021 TTA Awards, where the TTA shortlist shows it was entered for a Watford home. That ceremony took place at The Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel on Friday 10 September 2021. Companies House records PL Tilers Ltd, company number 10400675, as incorporated on 29 September 2016 with a registered address in Woodford Green.

What the certification requires

The scheme is open only to TTA Independent Tile Fixer members who are highly experienced and skilled, according to the association's scheme page. Applicants must work primarily as a tiler, pass an online skills and knowledge test and supply two customer references from the past 12 months.

Certification is renewed annually, and every three years Master Tile Fixers are invited to a refresher course covering technical and training questions. Membership rates stay at the Independent Tile Fixer level for the first year.

In return, TTA said, certified fixers have their directory listing shown at the top of search results on the association's website, receive a Master Tile Fixer van sticker, can use the Master Tile Fixer logo on stationery and marketing material, and get a press release and social media coverage from TTA on enrolment. They also receive free attendance at unlimited TTA Technical Masterclasses.

These sit on top of standard membership benefits, which the association lists as technical support, full access to technical documents, use of the TTA logo, a directory listing, training opportunities and discounts.

Background

Other Master Tile Fixers announced by TTA include Matar Jallow of MJ Tiling Specialist Ltd, a Manchester-based company working in the commercial and domestic sectors, who has fixed tiles since 2010. In a separate announcement the association named three Master Tile Fixers at once: Shane Collins of Harbour Design Interiors Ltd, Nicolae Chelaru of NMC Supreme Tile Ltd and Ashley Hall of Niche Tiling Ltd.

TTA's scheme page also carries question-and-answer features with existing Master Tile Fixers including Stephen Wagstaff, Adrian O'Clements, Csaba Bogdan, David Westwood, Antony Marson, Colin Barber, Nicolae Chelaru and Harvey Wright.

The association says its wider aim is a competent, qualified workforce in the tiling industry. Independent Tile Fixer members who want to apply for the certification are directed to the Master Tile Fixer page on the TTA website, where the online test and reference requirements are set out.
