Beardwell Construction has donated £9,000 to Little Havens Hospice in Benfleet after staff, supply chain partners and the firm's wider network raised the money through a golf day and a Race Across London event.

The National Federation of Builders (NFB), which published the news, said the two events brought colleagues and supporters together to raise funds for the Essex-based children's charity.

Representatives from the contractor visited the hospice to present the donation and to see the charity's work at first hand, the NFB said.

The visit

During the visit the team toured the hospice's facilities, including a recently completed Moana-themed sensory garden. The NFB said the garden provides a specialist environment for children and young people receiving care.

Little Havens Hospice provides specialist support for babies, children and young people living with complex or incurable conditions, serving families across Essex and the surrounding areas. The charity also runs services for parents, siblings and carers.

According to the NFB, the hospice relies heavily on charitable donations and community support, and needs significant funding each year to keep its services running.

Beardwell Construction thanked everyone who contributed, saying staff, supply chain partners and event participants all played a part in reaching the final total.

The company

Beardwell describes itself on its website as a family-run contractor founded in 1986, working for clients in London, East Anglia and the South East. Companies House records its nature of business as the construction of commercial buildings, with a registered office at Threshelfords Business Park in Feering, Colchester.

The donation sits alongside the company's published social value commitments. Beardwell says that, on average, 76% of its spend on each project goes to local companies, and that it supports young people entering construction through apprenticeships, training and mentoring.

The firm says it treats every project as an opportunity to create lasting benefits for the people and communities it serves.

The £9,000 will go towards the hospice's ongoing care for children and families across Essex.
